Site development

Work began on demolishing the derelict and dilapidated post war buildings to the rear of the site in September 2022.

The work is being undertaken by project managers Avison Young and Safedem in partnership with the University. All buildings of historic significance, including the Quad, will be retained and incorporated into any new design plan.

Neighbours living in immediate proximity to the site were informed of the demolition in advance and made aware that surveys of their own properties would be undertaken.

Fife Councillors representing St Andrews were also written to and any subsequent queries responded to.

Timeframe

Demolition of the buildings to the rear of the A-Listed building began in September 2022 and will last for three to four months.

Operational hours

Operational hours are 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Some work may be undertaken outwith these hours, but no demolition will be undertaken outside of the dedicated timeframe.

Impact

All parties involved in the demolition process have extensive experience in this field of work and will strive to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum. Precautions and actions are in place to ensure that the impact in terms of noise, dust and removal of waste is also kept to a minimum.

Waste removal

Avison Young intends to reuse as much of the existing on-site material as possible. What cannot be recycled on-site will be contained in two to three skips. To minimise disruption and limit environmental impact regarding transporting of waste from the site, lorries will only remove waste material when these skips are at capacity.

Lorries will follow a route along Queen’s Terrace, onto Abbey Street and along North Street.
